Personal Bio
Personal Bio written by Diane Corriette
As a child you believe all the labels you are given (please don’t label your children!) and so when I heard the phrase “she’s shy” and “not that clever” often enough I decided that was exactly what I was and lived my life that way.
I spoke only when spoken to – and who wants to speak to someone who never speaks! So I spent a lot of time in silence. I also failed at school (although excelled in the two topics I loved – English and Human Biology!)
I decided “being shy” was not the way I was going to raise my daughter so I started on a journey towards total self confidence and I also took up studying so I could change my career. I went from being shy to being over bearing, wanting to control people and life, before finding a balance. I rebuilt my life and became at peace with who I am.
Now self expressed and confident I write in the area of building self confidence and being altogether fabulous through two blogs.
Eventually I decided being married wasn’t working for me, found out I was pregnant and split anyway – thought that moment was a good time to study A Level English (always wanted to be a writer and loved English at school) and began raising 2 children and a brand new baby with the support of my wonderful mother, family and friends. I rebuilt my life and started a new career.
I loved working with not for profit businesses and the work I did in schools with teenagers. When I lost the ability to walk I lost a lot more and it took some time to recover from that. I found myself not wanting to go out because even after walking again being able to stand for more than 5 minutes was a nightmare – the insurance company refused to pay out (some clause in the small print) and I had no money coming in because I wasn’t working. so I rebuilt my life using the internet.
In 2008 with a strong sense of something missing I went out of my way to discover more about my Caribbean heritage, started a social network that grew to 8,000 members in 2 years and made loads of new connections. In March 2010 I handed the network over to be run by a wonderful woman with great connections who will really be able to build it into a powerful platform.
Do not wait; the time will never be “just right’. Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along. Napoleon Hill
My health is fantastic now and between meditation and losing all those extra pounds I put on over the years I am coming back better and more vibrant than ever before.
